For a Victorian published author whose body of published work has made an outstanding contribution to Australian literature and to cultural and intellectual life.
The author’s work can include all genres, for example, fiction, non-fiction, essays, plays, screenplays and poetry.

This Award will be given to a Victorian published author to fund a project/s, travel or other proposals that will assist them pursue their writing career.
To be eligible for this category entrants must be commercially published authors and can be nominated by their publisher, agent or other.

The Writers Prize will be awarded to the winning author for an essay (10,000 maximum words) of outstanding originality, literary merit and creative freshness.

This Award will be given to the finalist, from the Melbourne Prize for Literature 2021 or The Writers Prize 2021, with the highest number of public votes.
Votes can be made using the online Voting Form, which will be available at melbourneprize.org from the announcement of finalists on 15 September to November 10 at 5pm.
